Chapter 25

Waking up with a cough, there was dust everywhere, even my nostrils were full of it as well. Snorting out what I could, I shifted slightly and immediately my whole body was in pain. Opening my eyes all I could see were rocks behind and in front of my sunglasses. Shifting to clear them I was finally able to look around a little bit, I shifted some more as something hard stabbed into my back.

Stashing some of the rocks to make room, I turned to my left to see the mouth and tentacles of one of the faceless abominations. Immediately moving to pull out a throwing knife my left arm struggled past a number of rocks when I stopped to look at it. The monster hadn’t moved at all. Looking around the monster, it had been crushed by the cave in.

Taking a slow breath, shuffling under the rocks as I tried not to take in much dust into my lungs I looked around. Under the rocks nearby all the way up the passageway the caltrops weren't moving at all. Telling me for a fair distance both ways the passageway had been caved in. If it had been caved in both ways, what about the Elves and Lorna? Did they make it out?

A sharp pang of worry cut through my mind. Immediately sending Ciara and Lorna a quick message through my earring, but there was no response. Not very surprising they didn’t answer, they weren't conscious the last time I saw them. Hopefully they didn’t get caught in the cave in and where on the way back to the Glade, if not. No, I can't think like that right now, I can’t let that splinter of doubt sit in my mind destroying my focus. No, hopefully the cave in allowed them to get away.

Trying to push up on the rocks didn’t do very much. Even with all my Might the very fact I couldn’t move them surprised me. There had to be an extensive amount of weight on above me.

Finally able to shift my body to let me crouch in a small recess in the new formation, my legs hurt a bit, but still felt very weak. Looking down the spikes from before had stabbed in much deeper. There were five of them. The amount of pain was moderate, but what surprised me was that I had barely felt it when shifting to the crouching position. Then a thought hit me. I will not be going very far or fast with this kind of damage to my legs.

Worried there was more damage I hadn't felt, I checked over my body. My whole right arm was badly bruised, but nothing was broken thankfully. Feeling up and down my back, a sharp piece of metal cut into my finger feeling over my left buttock. Grabbing the sharp piece of metal and pulling it out with a small grunt, I already knew what it was. The two frag grenades had sent a shower of shrapnel throughout the passage and luckily it only hit my butt.
